When I was in my third year as a youth minister, some years ago, I got hooked up with a man named Roy "Soup" Campbell. It was a providential meeting indeed. One month later I found myself on his front porch at 5am, in the middle of one of the more dangerous "hoods" in Memphis. It was there Soup presented to me the challenge that changed my life: "If you can be faithful, I'll show you how to be a man of God." From that day forward, Soup began discipling me, and my life would never be the same. Not only did I mature by leaps and bounds spiritually, but I also learned about this strategy of "making disciples" that I had never seen modeled in the flesh. Over the next few years of investigation, I found this process of building disciples of Christ to be foundational in the New Testament church, yet wildly exceptional in today's Western church culture. This realization started as a burden, and slowly grew into a conviction, and today, DownLine Ministries exists to do something about the apparent “gap” in biblical disciple-making that exists in American Christianity. Join us for a season in which, "If you can be faithful, we will show you how to be a man or woman of God!"?
The Lord has left very specific instruction as to how we, His ambassadors, are supposed to make Him known among the nations. However, these instructions have been confused, abused, and flat out ignored by many in Western Christianity over the last two centuries. The DownLine’s Emerging Leader program is an opportunity for you to anchor your life in the Scriptures and learn the vision and strategy given to every born again believer for world impact. This strategy, found in the Great Commission of Christ, will be given to you in a way you've most likely never understood before, and the ramifications on your life will be transformational. Through multi-generational discipleship Jesus Christ left behind a "DownLine" of followers that would be ever increasing to the ends of the earth until the end of time. Your DownLine experience will be an equipping season, so that you can live the most strategic and effective life for Christ possible, no matter what context or culture you may find yourself living in for the remainder of your days. In this regard, it is truly "one year for the rest of your life!"
As an Emerging Leader, you will be taught your Bible as well as a fresh paradigm and equipping for making disciples according to the model and mandate of Christ. You will also receive Biblical Manhood or Womanhood and some holistic Spiritual Life training by some of the most renowned men and women of the faith across the country. While most of this curriculum training will take place in the classroom, your learning will continue outside the classroom, as you have the opportunity to immediately put to use what you are learning in the context of an urban ministry as a consistent ministry volunteer. Furthermore, all Emerging Leaders are given a mentor for the year who will invest in them for the duration of the year, and potentially long after…
