Institute for Men

DownLine is a ministry that exists to equip and unleash Christians in the area of disciple-making. One of the great tragedies in our day is that tens of thousands of Christians sit in churches week after week without Christ’ vision and strategy for impacting the globe. DownLine seeks to come alongside churches and aid them in the training and equipping of that army to march. ONE of the avenues through DL accomplishes its mission is through a nine month intensive training program for clergy and lay leadership called the DownLine Institute.

Each year approximately 75 men are selected from throughout the city of Memphis and around the nation to join DownLine for nine months that will change their lives! These men represent the diversity of the body of Christ crossing denominational, racial, and generational lines. The DownLine Institute's purpose is to equip these lay leaders for multiplicative, multi-generational impact through disciple-making.

The two most consistently asked questions among potential disciple-maker are 1) what did JESUS mean when He said to “make disciples of all nations” and 2) what if I don’t know my Bible that well? As a student in the Institute, you will be trained in Bible, Disciple-making, Biblical Manhood, and Spiritual Life, so that you understand exactly what Biblical discipleship entails and so that you can “palm your Bible” in order to sharpen and mold men into the image of Christ. The goal for any Institute graduate is that he will be equipped to make disciples of Christ for the rest of his life.

Every student in the DownLine Institute is invited to participate in a DL International trip during or at the conclusion of his nine months in order that he might experience what Christ is doing around the globe and be further consumed by a passion for global impact. We believe this trip will be one of the most strategic "missions" trips our students have ever been on and will leave in motion an ever increasing disciple-making movement in its wake.

We believe that the combination of the solid classroom training, the diverse community of brothers in Christ as classmates, and the opportunity to participate in training Christian leaders in other contexts with what you are learning are each valuable components of this transformational year.
