When I was in my third year as a youth minister, some years ago, I got hooked up with a man named Roy "Soup" Campbell. It was a providential meeting indeed. One month later I found myself on his front porch at 5am, in the middle of one of the more dangerous "hoods" in Memphis. It was there Soup presented to me the challenge that changed my life: "If you can be faithful, I'll show you how to be a man of God." From that day forward, Soup began discipling me, and my life would never be the same. Not only did I mature by leaps and bounds spiritually, but I also learned about this strategy of "making disciples" that I had never seen modeled in my life thus far. Over the next few years of investigation, I found this process of building disciples of Christ to be foundational in the New Testament church, but wildly exceptional in today's church. This realization became a burden, and then a conviction, and today, DownLine Ministries exists to do something about the gap in Biblical disciple-making that exists in American Christianity. We will equip you by teaching you Bible as well as paradigm-shifting Discipleship Training. You will also receive Biblical Manhood or Womanhood and some holistic Spiritual Life training by some of the most renowned men and women of the faith across the country. You will learn these things in the classroom, but they will be put to use immediately in the context of an urban ministry. You will be given a mentor for the year who will invest into you for the duration of the year, and potentially long after…
